Ride for Sick Kids Northern NSW

Ride for Sick Kids has been part of the Northern NSW community for more than two decades, bringing people together to help families stay close during some of their hardest moments.

The first ride took place in 2005, when a small group of 14 riders cycled from Inverell to Newcastle, raising vital funds to support families with a seriously ill or injured child. What started as a single journey has grown into a longstanding community effort across the region.

Since then, riders have travelled more than 12,500 kilometres through Northern NSW, raising funds that have helped provide over 22,000 nights of accommodation for families needing to be near their child’s care.

When a child is seriously ill or injured, families often have to travel long distances from across Northern NSW to access treatment. Being close matters. It means families can stay together, remain part of their child’s care, and hold onto some sense of normal life during a time that is anything but normal.

Funds raised through Ride for Sick Kids helps Ronald McDonald House Northern NSW provide accommodation and essential support services, helping families stay close when it matters most.

Today, Ride for Sick Kids is more than a single event. Each August, the ride comes to life across the region. A small group of riders take on the invitational 500km journey, while individuals, families and businesses ride in their own communities, all contributing to the same goal, helping families stay close to their child’s care.

What has remained unchanged is why the ride exists: to make sure families can stay close, together, when it matters most.
