I’m walking in Heart & Sole - Walk for Sick Kids to help families stay close

I’m taking part in Heart & Sole – Walk for Sick Kids to help families stay close when it matters most.

When a child is seriously ill or injured, everything changes. Being close to the hospital can make an incredibly tough time just that little bit easier.

That’s why I’m walking 20km and raising funds to help families stay close to their child’s care at Ronald McDonald House, in hospital Family Rooms, and across Northern NSW.

Around $190 can help support a family for one night providing a place to stay, meals and the comfort of being together.

Bella blast Neuroblastoma 2019

Friday 8th May
In 2019, our world changed forever when my beautiful daughter Bella 💕 was diagnosed with Stage 4 High-Risk Neuroblastoma. Hearing the words “your child has cancer” is something no parent is ever prepared for. Overnight, our lives became hospital rooms, specialists, scans, fear, and fighting for her life.

Bella endured more than any child ever should. She went through intense chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy, a bone marrow transplant, countless procedures, surgeries, and the removal of her main tumour. We lived at Ronald McDonald House Charities in Westmead for 12 long months while she received treatment. That house became our safe place during the darkest time of our lives — a place that gave us comfort, support, and somewhere to call home while Bella fought so hard.

Cancer didn’t just affect Bella physically — it changed every part of our lives emotionally, mentally, and financially. There were moments of fear, heartbreak, exhaustion, and uncertainty, but Bella continued to show incredible courage every single day. Even through pain and sickness, she kept smiling, kept fighting, and kept showing us what true strength looks like.

Today, Bella is cancer free, and for that I will be forever grateful. 💕 But our journey didn’t end when treatment stopped. The long-term effects of childhood cancer treatment continue every day, and Bella still faces challenges because of what her little body endured.

That’s why fundraising for families facing childhood cancer means so much to us. Organisations like Ronald McDonald House Charities supported us when we needed it most, and now we want to give back so other families can receive the same love and support during the hardest time of their lives.
