Putting families at the heart of care for over 30 years
Ronald McDonald House Northern NSW is an independent, nonprofit organisation, caring for families when they have children who are ill or injured.
Since opening the doors to our Ronald McDonald House in Newcastle in 1991, we’ve supported hundreds-of-thousands of families, offering a place for families with ill and injured child a place to stay when they’ve needed to travel for medical treatment.
We’ve continued to expand our Programs, operating another Ronald McDonald House in Tamworth; a Ronald McDonald House Family Room and Ronald McDonald House Family Hub in John Hunter Children’s Hospital; Ronald McDonald House Family Room in Gosford Hospital; and Ronald McDonald House Family Retreat in Forster.
Our Ronald McDonald House Learning Program also supports sick kids and their siblings, equipping them with the tools to catch-up on any education they have missed due to illness.
More than a place to stay
Our programs provide so much more than shelter for families with children who need to travel for medical care; offering a place to sleep, rest and play; where they can keep working and learning, share a home-coked meal and feel the warmth and comfort from other families, staff and volunteers. A place to stay together, stay strong and stay connected.

At just two years old, Elijah’s life changed suddenly when he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia and rushed to hospital for urgent treatment.
During Elijah’s treatment, his family spent more than 285 nights staying at Ronald McDonald House, allowing them to remain together and close to the hospital while he received the care he needed.
For families like Elijah’s, having a place to stay near the hospital means they can focus on supporting their child through treatment while still staying together as a family.
